Collection: Damascus Knives

Damascus knives, as the term is used today, commonly refer to modern knives featuring pattern-welded steel—forge-welded layers that form visible surface patterns. This approach differs from historical Damascus (now considered lost), which was known for its unique flowing grain and structural qualities. In contemporary knives, the pattern-welded cladding serves primarily an aesthetic purpose.

Japanese Damascus knives are often chosen for their distinctive visual appeal, offering laminated steel patterns reminiscent of river currents or ink flowing through water. The term “Damascus” is also used interchangeably with suminagashi and kitaeji.
