Collection: Shigeki Tanaka

The Tanaka family's blacksmithing legacy began in the late Meiji era (1900-1912) as sickle (kama) makers. In 1946, the workshop was established as Tanaka Tsutomu Kama Manufacturing.

Shigeki Tanaka trained under master blacksmiths and traditional craftsmen at a renowned forge in Takefu City, Fukui Prefecture. In 1994, the family began producing kitchen knives, and in 2000 became Tanaka Kazuyuki Hamono.

Based in Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture, Tanaka-san creates hand-forged Japanese kitchen knives using traditional "hon-tanzo" (true forging) and hand-hammering techniques. Each knife varies slightly due to the hand-forging process. Tanaka-san's work balances centuries-old techniques with practical modern applications.
