The Shigeki Tanaka aogami#2 k-tip bunka is a compact, multipurpose kitchen knife suited for a wide range of everyday prep tasks. The blade has a kurouchi finish that helps reduce reactivity and gives the surface a natural forged appearance. The aogami#2 core steel takes a sharp edge. The knife is fitted with an octagonal Japanese quince handle that offers a comfortable and stable grip.
The Tanaka family is a well-known knife-making family from Miki City and has been in the craft for more than 100 years. Shigeki Tanaka is a fourth-generation blacksmith. He trained in Takefu for three years before joining his family’s workshop in 1999. He primarily works with VG10 and aogami#2, and his knives are known for consistent heat treatment and solid cutting performance relative to its cost.

Why is the blade length different from the displayed size? The size in the product title is a nominal reference used by knife makers. The actual blade can be slightly longer or shorter due to handcrafting and traditional sizing. Each product page lists the exact measured length.
When will out-of-stock items be restocked? We carry limited, rotating stock. Once something sells out, we don't necessarily reorder it right away. It could be months before that item comes back, if at all. We bring in new knives regularly, but they're not always the same ones. Our newsletter is the best way to stay updated on new arrivals.
