The Shapton Rock Star 1000 is a standard medium grit stone that serves as the foundation of your sharpening routine.

As with all Shapton stones, the Rockstar 1000 is a splash-and-go stone, meaning you can start sharpening after just a quick splash of water. However, Shapton recommends a 5-minute soak the first time you use the stone. After this initial soaking, the Rockstar 1000 will be ready for splash-and-go use for all your future sharpening sessions.

Dimensions: 210x70x10mm

❖ Shapton Rockstar vs Shapton Pro (Kuromaku)
The Shapton Kuromaku and Rockstar sharpening stones are both made from aluminum oxide abrasives bonded with a magnesia binder. While the materials used are similar, there is a slight variation in the "recipe" between the two lines. The Rock Star stones undergo a modified molding and pressing process, creating a slightly harder and finer sharpening feel compared to the Kuromaku series. Additionally, the RockStar stones are thinner (10mm) than the Kuromaku stones (15mm). Both lines deliver exceptional results, and the choice between them comes down to personal preferences and specific sharpening requirements. (As a side note, the Rockstar series offers a level of quality comparable to Shapton's renowned GlassStone series.)

• Care Guide
  • Use a whetstone to maintain sharpness. Avoid electric sharpeners and pull-through sharpeners, as they are not suitable for Japanese kitchen knives. Honing rods, typically used for western-style knives, may potentially damage the edge.
  • Choose a wooden or rubber cutting board instead of bamboo or poly boards to preserve the knife's edge.
  • Keep the knife clean and dry, especially if it is made of carbon steel. Carbon knives are prone to rusting.
  • Avoid using the knife to cut through bones or frozen foods. It's best to use a separate knife specifically designed for these tasks.
  • When cutting, use a smooth and fluid motion, avoid twisting or torquing the blade. This technique helps maintain control and minimizes the risk of damage.
  • Never put Japanese kitchen knives in the dishwasher. Instead, hand wash them with mild soap, ensuring thorough cleaning, and then dry them completely before storing.
