Reminder: We must still have your knife with us to process this. Once you order, we send your knife to the saya maker. Completion takes 2-3 weeks. This can't be cancelled once the knife is with the maker.
A made-to-order magnolia wood saya with an ebony pin, custom-made to fit your knife. Simple, basic, and no frills. The work is done by our partner shop here in Japan.
Most generic, ready-made sayas come in one fixed size for each knife type and length. Height and spine thickness vary from knife to knife. A generic 240mm gyuto saya won't fit all 240mm gyutos: some are taller, some have a thicker spine, and so on.
Magnolia (ho wood) is the standard choice for Japanese knife saya. It's soft and gentle on the edge. It's slightly porous, unlike a plastic guard that seals humidity in. It also holds its shape as humidity shifts, unlike some hardwoods that warp or shrink easily.
