Collection: Miyazaki Kajiya

Miyazaki Kajiya is the workshop of Haruki Miyazaki, based in Goto, Nagasaki. He does everything himself, from forging to finishing and sharpening.

Born in 1985, Miyazaki-san developed a passion for blacksmithing after his father introduced him to Japan's forging tradition. At 18, he sought out Toshio Ooba in Fukuoka, a third-generation bladesmith known for the traditional hakata knife, and persuaded Ooba-san to take him on as an apprentice. After five years of training, he returned to Goto in 2011 to open his own workshop.

He continued traveling across Japan, learning from other bladesmiths along the way. One who left a lasting mark was the late Yukinori Shirataka, known for forging the Thousand Year Nail, a rust-resistant nail built for the restoration of Hakuho-period historic structures. That encounter never really left him, and it shaped the approach he brings to his work today.
