Collection: Haruki Miyazaki
The Miyazaki collection is a line of hand-forged Japanese kitchen knives made by Haruki Miyazaki in Goto, Nagasaki. Miyazaki-san handles the forging, finishing, and sharpening himself.
Born in 1985, Miyazaki-san developed a passion for blacksmithing after his father introduced him to Japan's forging tradition. At 18, he sought out Toshio Ooba in Fukuoka, a third-generation bladesmith known for the traditional hakata knife, and persuaded Ooba-san to take him on as an apprentice. He trained under Ooba-san for five years before returning to Goto in 2011 to open his own workshop.
After opening his workshop, he continued traveling across Japan to refine his craft, learning from bladesmiths including the late Yukinori Shirataka, a master blacksmith who spent his career forging traditional tools and hardware used in the restoration of Japan's most significant historic structures. Shirataka is also known for forging the 'Thousand Year Nail', a rust-resistant nail designed to endure a millennium, created for the restoration of Hakuho-period architectural structures. That dedication to traditional ironwork left a lasting impression on Miyazaki-san's approach to his craft.
